BIG SCOPE: PAINTING AND PLACE

In 2013 I curated an exhibition of painting for Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery titled Big Scope: painting and place. For this exhibition I was able to draw on loans from individual artists, collectors, public collections and commercial galleries, such as Utopia Art Sydney, May Space and Arc One, Melbourne.

The exhibition provided viewers with a range of experiences, from the expansive and panoramic paintings of Gordon Rintoul, to the intimate and all encompassing works of Paul Uhlmann, whose series of larger than life paintings were installed in a purpose built viewing space designed to embrace the viewer. Other artists included in the exhibition were Robert Boynes, Peter Daverington, Mirdidingkingathi Juwarnda Sally Gabori, John R Walker and Catherine Woo.

YOUR COLLECTION: Charles Collin

During my time as Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery’s Exhibitions and Collections Officer, I curated numerous exhibitions showcasing aspects of the gallery’s permanent collection. Your Collection: Charles Collin featured the photography of Charles Collin, an employee of BHP from the late 1940’s through to his retirement in the late 1960s. Collin worked for the company as a photographer and safety officer and documented all aspects of dock life through his signature pictorialist style.

YOUR COLLECTION: Off the Wall

Your Collection: Off the Wall was an exhibition I curated in 2016 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery sculpture park. In addition to works from the gallery’s permanent collection, including newly acquired works by Ian Burns and Janet Laurence, I also drew on loans from artists Jamie North, Braddon Snape and John Turier.
